The 5 AM club, productivity, and deep work
Some books give you new ideas. Others fundamentally rewrite who you are.
Next to The Bible, there are only a handful of books that have truly changed my life. At the top of that list is The 5 AM Club by Robin Sharma.
I spent most of my life as a die-hard night owl. I never thought I’d see the sunrise by choice. But this book didn't just change my schedule—it changed my brain.
This post isn’t to tell you that you must be a morning person. Use your clock however it suits your flow.
However, there is one principle I stole from this book that has been transformational for more than 5 years:
𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗕𝗘𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗘 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗲.
Statistics show that Statistics show that 𝟴𝟰% 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗽𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝟭𝟬 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀 of waking up. Source: https://lnkd.in/gqzNJ53T
The moment you do that, you are no longer in control of your day—you are reacting to other people’s problems.
By tackling my # 1 task first:
I win the day before the rest of the world even wakes up.
Even if the day turns into total chaos, I’ve already moved the needle on what matters.
𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝟴𝟰%, Try this approach for 30 days—long enough to break the cycle and feel the results. I assure you, you won't go back to doom scrolling and tackling other people’s problems first thing in the morning.
